Arrests have been made in connection with last week’s stabbing death of a 14-year old Brampton Boy.
Rajiv Dharamdial was slain last Tuesday as he walked home after school. The Grade 9 student at Sandalwood Heights Secondary School made a 911 call after being attacked at about 3:30pm. In an undeveloped ravine that runs behind his home on Fairlawn Blvd. in the Humberwest Parkway and Airport Road area.
Peel Police have yet to confirm anything but a family member and a lawyer for one of two accused young teens have told The Star that two people have been charged. A court source told The Star text messages among several students played a role in the arrests.
The young teens are expected to make a first appearance in a Brampton courtroom later this afternoon. Both of the accused are under 18 so their names are protected by Canada’s youth laws.
A family member said Peel homicide investigators came to their home this morning to tell them that arrests had been made.
‘I don’t know nothing more than that,” said Mary Dharamdial, the boy’s aunt.
Defence lawyer Gary Batasar confirmed he had been retained by a 16-year-old boy in connection with the deadly attack.
‘I can’t say anything right now,” Batasar said.
At least one of the accused is a Brampton resident although it’s unknown whether any of the accused teens attended Ravi’s high school. The attack occurred soon after Dharamdial parted ways with several friends, who were walking with him, police previously said.
Paramedics found him bleeding from several stab wounds after a passerby stumbled upon him lying near a dumpster and a construction Bobcat.
He was taken to hospital but died later from his injuries.
His homicide-the 24th of the year in Peel- was the fourth slaying in four days being investigated by Peel Police.
Police said at the time of the tragedy that witnesses reported the young boy being followed by two young black boys about his own age.
