Day In Court

Nageeb Abdul Jabar Mohamed Al- Hadi finally has a lawyer. And now the man who’s been detained since the September 11th terrorist attacks forced his Lufthansa flight to be diverted to Pearson airport, is looking for answers. And so are investigators.
Al- Hadi was discovered carrying three different passports, and his luggage contained two pilots’ uniforms. His new counsel wants to know why his client is being kept in isolation, whitout phone calls or legal advice, even though he hasn’t been charged in Canada. Instead, American authorities want to question him about his activities. “The U.S. government is aware of their obligations under the treaty,” points out Gary Batasar. “They have until the 10th of November, and after which Mr. Al- Hadi will be entitled to a discharge.”
Until then, Batasar wants his client to have improved living arrangements. And as for any involvement in terrorism? “He’s got the right to remain silent, and he’s going to exercise that right.”
