Client R.T. was charged with Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon. It was alleged that after a verbal dispute with an acquaintance regarding illicit drugs, client R.T. stabbed the victim numerous times then fled the scene, leaving the victim in critical condition. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where hundreds of stitches were used to close the stab wounds. A warrant was subsequently issued for R.T. Shortly after, the accused turned himself into police and was held for a bail hearing. Despite the aggravating circumstances of the charges, along with a lengthy criminal record in excess of 10 pages, Mr. Batasar was successful in having the accused released into the custody of his surety. Counsel argued that R.T. was acting in self defence, which convinced the presiding Justice of the Peace that the release of the accused was most appropriate.
