A 24-year old Mississauga Man arrested after Peel Regional Police found three loaded handguns inside a Bristol Rd. apartment earlier this year, has pleaded guilty to a number of firearms offences.
Harun Murad was originally facing 15 firearm charges, including careless storage of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. But, he pleaded guilty last month to five of the offences. He remains in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced today.
The Crown prosecutors are asking for jail term of between three and five years. Murad’s lawyer, Gary Batasar, is asking for a conditional sentence on top of the six months his client has already spent in pre-trial custody.
Peel officers executed a search warrant on the apartment on the evening of April 28 following tips from the public. They located two loaded 9-millimetre semi-automatic pistols and a loaded .45-calibre handgun.
The Court heard that Murad claimed Peel Police stole $70,000 from his apartment during the search. Mr. Batasar wouldn’t comment on the allegation out of concern there may be an internal affairs probe into this matter.
